The ProAves Andean Parrot Reserve is part of the Endangered Andean Parrot Conservation Corridor of the Central Mountain Range, which is located between the municipalities of Roncesvalles, in the department of Tolima, and Génova, in the department of Quindío.
The Reserve is the habitat of 5 species of threatened parrots, including 3 endemic to Colombia: the Yellow-eared Parrot (Ognorhynchus Icterotis) (CR), the Blue-crowned Parrot (Hapalopsittaca fuertesi) (CR) and the Rufous-fronted Parakeet (Bolborhynchus ferrugineifrons) (VU); We also preserve the Paramuno Parakeet (Leptosittaca branickii) (VU), and the Mountain Parakeet (Hapalopsittaca amazonina) (VU). Additionally, we find populations of large mammals such as the spectacled bear, the mountain tapir, and the deer.
From the city of Ibague, take the road to Roncesvalles which takes 3 – 4 hours and 104 km. From Roncesvalles take the road to Yerbabuena which after 45 minutes enters the reserve.
