The Natural Reserve was created with the intention of preserving a sample of the habitat of migratory birds for the Cerulean Warbler (Setophaga cerulea), being the first reserve in South America established to protect a migratory bird.
The Natural Reserve, which covers an area of 207.6 hectares, is located on the western slope of the Colombian Eastern Cordillera in San Vicente de Chucurí, department of Santander, geographically bordering to the south with the Serranía de los Yariguíes National Park.
Public transportation: At the Bucaramanga Transport Terminal, module 3, take a bus from the Coopetran or Cootransmagdalena companies, with departures to San Vicente de Chucurí every hour from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
From San Vicente de Chucurí, you must take transportation to the Natural Reserve, the options are: 4×4 truck or Mototaxi, both options can be taken at the main park.
Private transportation: From Bucaramanga, take the Girón-Lebrija road to the Lisboa junction, approximately 1 hour. From there, take the road to San Vicente de Chucurí bordering the hydroSogamoso project.
When you reach the main park, take the road leading to La Germania village (we suggest that this route be taken only in trucks or SUVs, as the use of cars is restricted due to the difficulty of the road). Along the way, you will find signage to reach the Natural Reserve. From San Vicente de Chucurí to Reinita Cielo Azul, it takes approximately 30 minutes.
Route: Bucaramanga – Lebrija – Lisboa, San Vicente de Chucurí junction – La Germania village, central sector – ProAves Reserve.
